New Video card

So I am getting a new video card, but not sure which way to go. I have a 790i FTW with a 8800 GT so if I want to run SLI I will have to stick with nVidia. The AMD cards have much better performance for cost at this point, although this will void SLI in the future. The cards I have narrowed it down to are the following:

XFX HD-585X-ZAFC Radeon HD 5850:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150477&nm_mc=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r&cm_mmc=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r-_-Video+Cards-_-XFX-_-14150477

EVGA GeForce GTX 465 SuperClocked:
http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=01G-P3-1467-AR&family=GeForce%20400%20Series%20Family&sw=

Does anyone have any insight into these two cards? Just curious if the possibility of SLI in the future is worth getting the lower performing card.

thoughts?

IMO it's better to get one excellent card over 2 Ok cards.

What's your budget... $300?

Yeah, my budget is around $300, give or take. I've actually talked my wife into buying it for me so that would be her budget. I will pay part of it if needed. I haven't decided if I am going to go SLI in the future or not. Is it that much of a increase over a good single card? It seems to me with the multi-GPU cards, SLI and crossfire may eventually not mean as much. I am leaning towards the AMD though as when I upgrade my motherboard I will be abandoning nvidia.

If you got the $$ here's the card I have (Better looking SKU though, that they stopped making)

http://ncix.com/products/?sku=53499&vpn=HD-585X-ZNBC&manufacture=XFX

XFX is awesome too, double lifetime warranty. card runs great.

you dont want their non-reference boards, trust me. They take out some parts, but if you can find an xfx branded stock video card itd be better.

That is a sweet card and SLI or xfire for that matter is at best at BEST a 40% gain and often its a 20% and sometimes its nothing, literally like dual cores some games and programs just don't utilize it or utilize it correctly, better off getting one excellent card and don't skimp on the ram either

So there is not a reference card available by any brand currently. Only the non-reference versions. There is a little bit of price difference, but that is negligible.

Should I be patient and wait for the reference or just go for the non-reference?

tough choice seeing I want the new vid card asap.

AMD did announce their new cards would be out in Q4 of this year... Which will drop the price of the current cards a bit..

If you are looking for something ASAP, I would go with a ATI 5770 for the price/performance, then down the road see what comes up... Sucks your on SLI though, they dont have anything thats in a good price range except for the new 460's

So after much deliberation I have decided on a non-reference OC version from Sapphire. Here is the review:

There is quite a bit of ability to OC this card, it is quiet, and it stays cool. Of course I may have to move some things around in my box to fit it in, but oh well. I will let people know how it works when it gets here this week.
